Brittany Ferries lowers the cost of a return trip to France to only £9.95
Brittany Ferries has reduced the cost of a 24-hour excursion fare from £19.95 to only £9.95 per person with immediate effect.
The fare applies to all routes: Plymouth-Roscoff, Poole-Cherbourg, Portsmouth-Caen, Portsmouth-Cherbourg and Portsmouth-St.Malo. Routes can be mixed so, for example, it is possible to travel out to Roscoff and back from Cherbourg to Poole.
This special price represents truly outstanding value and, with Brittany Ferries’ wide range of routes, the prospect of a day trip is so much more attractive this year. Just see what can be done out of Plymouth:
There are 11 departures a week to choose from, but possibly the most convenient for a day trip is to take the overnight crossing that leaves Plymouth at 23.00 and arrives in Roscoff the next day at 07.00, giving you a full day to discover the delights of this charming and tranquil fishing village. It is steeped in history: Mary, Queen of Scots, arrived here in 1548 at the age of six on her way to Paris to be engaged to the Dauphin; in 1746 Bonnie Prince Charlie also landed at Roscoff after his defeat at Culloden; and in 1828 a 20 year-old Roscovite named Henri Olivier set sail for Plymouth from these shores. Henri, as the whole world surely knows, was the very first Breton Onion Johnnie to arrive in England. As testament to what he started, there is even a chapel in Roscoff dedicated to St Barbe, patron saint of ‘les johnnies’.
As one of France’s premier shellfish ports, it goes without saying that the seafood in Roscoff is exquisite, and many superb restaurants offer a variety of mouth-watering house specialities. There is a good choice of beaches too, offering the opportunity for invigoratingwalks along the sea-front. Sights to catch include the splendid church of Notre-Dame-de-Kroaz-Batz, the nearby house where Mary Stuart stayed, and the botanical gardens which contain over 1,500 species of plants from the southern hemisphere. Also, a 15 minute boat ride will take you to the charming Ile de Batz, with its exotic flora and impressive lighthouse..
There are a number of hypermarkets on the outskirts of town for stocking up on wines, cheeses and French delicacies.
Take your car (only £19.95 extra) to explore the dramatic Brittany coastline.
Return crossings are at either 16.30 or 23.30 getting you back in Plymouth at 21.30 or 06.30 respectively.
All for a fare of £9.95!
