Bars & Restaurants in Western Loire, Loire Atlantique

LE GOO BAR
Grossard - viaFrance
The Goo Bar is a sure-fire hit for an evening out in Nantes. The striking decor is industrial in inspiration: a motley collection of reclaimed objects (including a four metre-high beer pump!) makes the place unique.
The music is highly eclectic; from jazz to reggae or electro in the blink of an eye. The Goo Bar also has an impressive list of wines from all over the world, including a few very agreeable surprises.

HOTEL LA POMMERAYE
Grossard - viaFrance
The advantage of staying in this hotel is being a stone's throw from everything in the city centre: shops, pedestrian zones, monuments, good restaurants, and of course the sumptuous Pommeraye passage…
The hotel sometimes organises exchanges with artists who work to spruce up this establishment which is now an important part of the city's identity.
From the entrance right up to the actual rooms, the decor is sober but stylised - the halls were designed by Antoine Auradon, while a number of rooms were embellished by Estève and Boucheton.

The maker of candles and perfumed decorations has fitted the shop out like a real home, with everything from a kitchen, round room, a child's bedroom and several themed areas (flowers, perfumed candles, household decoration) on the ground floor. Located on the fourth floor of the Nantes Chamber of Commerce building, the Atlantide restaurant commands a panoramic view of the city and of the Loire. Designed by Vilmotte, the creator of the restaurant, to give a sense of warmth and light, it provides the perfect backdrop for the delicious cuisine of chef Jean-Yves Guého, a creative artist who achieves a stunning blend of savours. Examples include sea-bass à la plancha with a hint of tandoori spices, spit-roasted squab and pan-fried lobster chunks.

The restaurant offers traditional regional cooking from a menu that changes with the seasons and according to what is available on the markets, using only fresh ingredients.
Three dining-rooms welcome guests to the world of 1750; one featuring a fireplace, another a vaulted roof and period furniture.
In what was once a butter dairy, enjoy a roast rack of lamb with thyme served with a piperade of vegetables, before giving in to a sweet soufflé or (and?) a mille-feuille or (and?) a chocolate ice-cream!

LA TABLE DU PECHEUR
This recently renovated building with its summer terrace overlooking the Loire is to be found in the fishermen's quarter. The decoration creates an impression of being on a boat, with wooden walls, port-holes for windows and blue bench-seats; pictures represent scenes of the Loire and different stages of a fishing run.
The cuisine takes its inspiration from traditional sources, choosing fish from the Loire elegantly served, such as lamprey à l'anjou. The wine list offers a selection of Loire wines by the glass, carafe or bottle.

LE FLESSELLES
Grossard - viaFrance
For over twenty years, Le Flesselles has been one of those addresses passed on by word of mouth in Nantes. On the ground floor, enjoy light meals or a drink in a 50s setting.
On the first floor, the colourful Tiki Bar skips a decade to the 60s.
You might just happen on a surprise concert at aperitif time, or maybe a DJ set or, on the first Saturday of each month, on a café-philosophie session. Whatever's going on, Le Flesselles is a lively spot, well worth a detour.

BAR DU LIEU UNIQUE
Grossard - viaFrance
In a disused biscuit factory once owned by the LU group, Jean Blaise has created Lieu Unique, preserving the industrial heritage of the brick and concrete plant while imposing his own green and red colour scheme. The result is a vast yet welcoming space that still bears the mark of its history.
Now it houses an attractive bar-restaurant where the evenings are enlivened by excellent DJs or scheduled concerts and where, on fine days, the terrace alongside the Saint-Félix canal is an invitation to relax and simply enjoy life.

K FE IN
Grossard - viaFrance
This is a venue well worth visiting for the originality of its thoughtfully-designed baroque decoration and for the elegant party atmosphere. The setting is somewhere between lounge bar and restrained, with pale colours and white or brown leather furniture, all set off by pink and violet lighting that gives the K Fé In an almost magical air.
There are two complementary rooms, one relaxing and calm, ideal for starting the evening over a cocktail, and the other is the kingdom of the DJs and electro music. Paintings by local artists on the walls add an artistic touch that is perfectly in keeping.
