Brittany Ferries places order for new ship

Leading operator on the Western Channel, Brittany Ferries, has placed a £55 million order for a new freight ship with the Finnish shipyard, Aker Finnyards in Helsinki. With 1.37 miles of garage lanes, the new vessel will be able to transport 120 freight vehicles at a cruising speed of 23 knots.

Due for delivery in September 2007, the new freighter will operate routes from UK to Cherbourg and Santander.

"Not only will the high cruising speed enable us to achieve a high frequency service, but the greater efficiencies of operation will result in improved productivity, an important benefit in a highly competitive market," said David Longden, Managing Director.
