Take a Cultural Journey on Brittany Ferries

At a time when transport is becoming ever more commoditised, Brittany Ferries is always seeking to provide something different. With 200 original works of art on board their flagship, Pont Aven, the company is now offering audio-guides with a commentary to help passengers discover the background to each piece.

Brittany Ferries has, over the past 25 years, in its aim to create a unique ambience for each ship, commissioned original works of art from approximately 50 contemporary artists, some well-known, others less so. Today, they own some 1300 original artworks, most of which can be seen on each of their six passenger ships.

Passengers can make this cultural journey by simply hiring on board, at a cost of only £1, an MP3 player and listening to the descriptions, in English or French, of each separate painting, sculpture or photograph and an account of each one's significance in the creation of the ship's 'personality'. Alternatively, it is possible to download the audio-guide from www.brittanyferries.co.uk onto a personal MP3 player. Meanwhile, Brittany Ferries is reinforcing its credentials as supporter of the arts by sponsoring a major exhibition at the London Royal Academy this summer. Entitled 'Impressionists by the Sea', it will run from 7th July to 30th September.

Pont Aven sails twice a week to Santander departing from Plymouth every Sunday and Wednesday with a crossing time of just under 20 hours making it the shortest, fastest ferry service from the UK to Spain.
