Bars & restaurants in Brittany

LE COMIX
In the heart of the Quartier Saint-Martin, the liveliest quarter in Brest where all the students gather, the Comix is a theme bar named in honour of all those American comic-book superheroes and, of course, a famously indomitable Gaulish village holding out against the Roman invader. This welcoming bar doesn't serve magic potions, but it does offer a hundred or more comic-books for patrons to read, and a really friendly atmosphere at aperitif time.
So down with the Romans and their characterless bars, and off to the Comix!

LE BATEAU IVRE
Marie Grossard-Crivelli - viaFrance
Never tasted a Bombay Breizh? Head for the Bateau Ivre to try this delicious cocktail, made from gin, raspberry liqueur and lime. This is a friendly place where everyone talks to everyone else and people hop tables as the conversation ebbs and flows.
The decoration has been completely revamped for a neo-Baroque look in shades of red, with moulded frames and fuchsia slates. Another room is decorated in warm shades of beige for a more rococo style, but feels just as welcoming.
Exhibitions are staged every two weeks, with a contemporary focus and the same emphasis on sharing reactions and ideas.

HOTEL LE ROOF
Yvon Boëlle
The Roof hotel stands opposite the Morbihan gulf, only five minutes from the town centre - their rooms, most of which have balconies, command a sweeping view of the ocean.
To end a nice day at the beach, the Roof has two meal services: the lunch service is the brasserie-style, with good quality snacks to fill you up, while in the evening it is time for gastronomy, and one can be sure that seafood dishes are particularly tasty.
An additional bonus for holiday-goers (in the summer) is the public salt-water swimming pool close to the hotel.

SYMPATIC BAR
Marie Grossard-Crivelli - viaFrance
Spend an evening with friends here, and you won't regret it! If only for the amazing "Chien Fou" cocktail (strawberry cordial, vodka, Tabasco) served in a shot glass, or the famous "Verre Vert" (green glass) consisting of Get 27, vodka and Perrier). The beer list is impressive, too, and the English pub atmosphere makes for a relaxing evening.
The music tends towards rock'n'roll, and lots of regulars enjoy a game of table football or two. An upstairs room is available for functions and concerts.

AU FIN CAFE
Marie Grossard-Crivelli - viaFrance
This ancient building with its old-world decoration is one of the oldest shops in Rennes. It offers 16 different types of coffee, from single-bean to blends. Your coffee is milled to order and sold free of preservatives.
Tea lovers need not feel neglected, however, since the shop also offers around a hundred varieties of loose tea, teas in muslin bags and a number of highly original and subtly flavoured teas: "poet's mix" is a blend of cinnamon, vanilla, caramel and apple, "cherub's blend" mixes sweet and bitter with hazelnut chocolate spiked with blood orange and additional notes of lemon and almond.
For your own perfect tea ceremony or coffee break, a selection of table-ware is also available.

ATELIER DE MADAME COCAR
Madame Cocar's workshop provides an in-depth introduction to the techniques of traditional stained glass and the asymmetric creative work required to produce the required thick glass using traditional craftsman's methods. For 25 years the work of production has been carried on in this studio, with the utmost respect for the material and how it will blend into the environment for which it is destined.
The stained glass produced in this workshop graces buildings both public and private along the Breton coast. Other smaller pieces, known as "cabinet stained glass", are on display in the exhibition gallery outside the studio.
