Les Traversées Tatihou Music Festival

Sometimes smaller music festivals can be just as impressive as larger festivals, and the Les Traversees Tatihou ('The Crossings Tatihou') is no exception. Being one of the most unique and special festivals around today, the Les Traversees Tatihou takes place on a small island off the Normandy coast in August each year, and is home to a great line-up of quality European and global Folk artists.

What makes this festival unique is the island of Tatihou is a tidal island. Mostly uninhabited, it is usually reached by amphibious boat, but during low-tide it is possible to walk there over the local oyster beds. The festival times are arranged with close adherence to the tide timetable, because to head across to enjoy the festival performances each night is to take the most common way, and to walk across from the town of St. Vaast-la-Hougue at low-tide. A very unique and special festival moment to watch festival-goers, from the young to the older generations walking, mostly in their wellingtons, beach sandals or barefoot on the path towards the island, reveling in the festival atmosphere - a very photo-worthy occasion!

Enjoy the festival atmosphere (lasting for approx. 2 hours) before taking the low-tide path from the island of Tatihou back to St. Vaast-la-Hougue to stop at some local bars, or to prepare for the next day's journey to the festival on the island.

Les Traversees Tatihou is on from the 18th to the 21st of August and Brittany Ferries can take you directly to the Normandy coastline with a good choice of daily sailings departing from Portsmouth or Poole, arriving at Cherbourg (about 35 minutes drive from St Vaast-la-Hougue and the island of Tatihou).
