Within the Forum du Volcan, the national theatre of Le Havre affectionately known as the "yogurt pot", the recently-opened Cabaret Electric is a smaller, more intimate theatre whose programme concentrates primarily on new musical talent. Over forty concerts a year are staged in this unusual venue, which provides support to artistes throughout their work. Leading groups are often to be found here, polishing up their next show or preparing an album in the course of a creative residency. Seating at the Anatole Bar is provided in the form of Louis XV and Louis XVI arm-chairs in the centre of a 250m² venue with two dance-floors for lovers of Latin music.

You can even learn to dance here, thanks to the dance classes held early Saturday evenings in styles ranging from country to salsa, taught by professionals.

Two themed evenings a month cover a wide variety of interests, including catwalk shows, jazz and Latino concerts or singing competitions.

For three generations, Deconihout has been selling its ranges of household wares, from delicate indoor perfumes to decorative items, linen and furniture. The ground floor offers a classic range of hardware products, but the recently-opened first floor is astonishingly different. BR>Period half-timbering and Louis Philippe woodwork have been exposed to create an old-world effect. Interior decorations for an antique look and old furniture reworked to modern tastes set the tone for this distinctive home decoration store.

Right in the historic town centre of Rouen, Le Bidule is one of a kind. The splendid vaulted cellar offers two distinct areas: one contains the dance-floor while the other, calmer and more intimate, offers an opportunity to relax quietly over a cocktail or a flaming shot.
The decoration is vaguely oriental with Moroccan lamps and upholstered arm-chairs. An exotic atmosphere in which to enjoy the house music that keeps the Bidule rocking until late into the night.

Once comfortably installed – the spaces between tables are generous – expect to enjoy good, simple cooking that is not without refinement. Terrine forestière served with onion chutney followed by a grilled entrecôte steak with béarnaise sauce make an excellent and satisfying choice.

The Taverne Paillette in the centre of Le Havre has been an institution for over fifty years. Regulars flock here to enjoy seafood and sauerkraut in a Bavarian-style setting of wood panelling and ceramic beer-mugs.
The atmosphere is welcoming, the staff professional and smiling. Try the Paillette beer, once again brewed in Normandy, as the perfect accompaniment to the traditional Alsace cuisine served here.

The building is in the purest Norman style, but the decoration at Le Chenevis is rather original: lots of wood, hand-made mosaic tables, chairs and other objects customised by Esgre Paillot, a local artist whose works are on permanent display in the restaurant.
Everything on the menu is organic: tea, fish, meat and vegetarian dishes, with something for all tastes in a range that leans heavily towards the home-made. Perhaps the vegetable pâté with malted grains will win new fans for the restaurant, which also serves teas Tuesday to Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 7.30 p.m.

La Couronne is quite simply the oldest inn in France, built in 1345 on the former Place du Vieux Marché in the heart of the old town of Rouen. This luxurious, ultra-chic venue is a combination of bar, pub and restaurant down on the docks. The decoration is made up of warm colours and white canopied sofas, in a subtle mix of wood and iron. The bar slides on rails to expand or contract depending on how many patrons it needs to accommodate.
The wine list features 120 wines from France, Chile and Canada. The list of whiskies runs to an impressive 30, and food is served at all hours.
