Brittany Ferries strengthens security for internet bookings
Brittany Ferries will further protect travellers paying for their bookings online (using their Visa or Mastercard) with the introduction of 3D Secure to its website.
3D Secure is an extra security measure designed by the card schemes comprising "Verified by Visa" and "MasterCard SecureCode". It can be thought of as an online version of 'Chip and Pin' technology, whereby the cardholder has a personalised password registered with their card that is entered during the checkout process.
"This additional security feature is for the benefit of our clients so that they can be confident that we are taking all of the measures we can to combat ever increasing online fraud. The scheme is designed to ensure that stolen/fraudulently used cards cannot be used on our site" comments Graham Harrison, Brittany Ferries' Financial Controller.
People booking, who have already been invited by their bank to join the scheme and have enrolled, will be routed to their bank's website to authenticate their transaction before being able to continue completing their booking online. If their bank does not require them to be enrolled, they will not see any impact when making the booking online.
Book online with Brittany Ferries at www.brittanyferries.com or call 0871 244 1444.

Editors Note:
The 3D Secure procedures are not controlled by Brittany Ferries. As soon as the card number is entered and requested to be processed the responsibility passes to the customer's bank and card schemes. Therefore, if the card requires 3D Secure Brittany Ferries cannot influence or bypass this.
