Such is the success of Brittany Ferries' services from Plymouth to Santander this summer that the ferry operator has decided not to stop services for the winter period from mid-November as it has done in previous years, but to extend operations until 19 December with a convenient weekend service.

From 12 November until 19 December there will be a sailing every Friday departing from Plymouth at 2.00 pm arriving the next day in Santander at 1.00pm, returning at 7.00 pm and arriving in Plymouth on Sunday at 4.00pm.

The success of this route is due in no small part to the passenger appeal of Brittany Ferries' new £100 million flagship, Pont-Aven, which was introduced into service earlier this year. It is the most luxurious and fastest cruise-ferry operating from the UK, providing a quality experience more akin to that found on a luxury cruise than a ferry crossing.

Fancy staying somewhere with a bit of character? Brittany Ferries Holidays has a range of gîtes converted from farms, barns, watermills and even one built into a cave, but perhaps none more striking than a converted windmill in the Western Loire. The property sleeps 4 with accommodation on 3 levels, and even has its own courtyard and garden. Nearby Châteaubriant is an old fortified town with an 11th century castle to explore, and the market in Nozay should provide you with all you need for the BBQ in the garden!
