Somewhere different, but easy to get to and with many historical links to Britain, Normandy offers literally hundreds of activities, events, festivals and attractions for all the family.

With hundreds of miles of coastline steeped in the history of D-Day and William the conqueror, and the world famous Bayeux Tapestry and Mont Saint-Michel, Normandy has long been a favourite destination for British visitors. In fact, there are literally hundreds of activities, events and attractions that are simply perfect for everyone in the family, young and old.

There’s the Christian Dior Museum & Garden in Granville, for example, which this summer is celebrating 60 years of the Dior brand. Visit this beautifully restored cliff-top house and explore the internationally-acclaimed designer’s childhood home, and witness a range of over 80 haute couture pieces. Or why not try a trip to the Cerza Zoological Park near Lisieux? This ecologically friendly park is home to over 400 animals, from kangaroos and antelopes to rhinos and gibbons – a visit here and you’ll soon feel like you’re on your very own Safari, but in France!

For quieter exploration, cycle through picture-postcard villages. Discover hidden botanical gems along 7,500km of leafy hiking trails, leading to handsome cities, shady paths and enchanting forests. For a bit of glamour head to Deauville, a resort awash with casinos and racetracks, plus a generous sandy beach for some rest and relaxation. Or lose yourself on the fairways of Normandy’s delightful golf courses or settle down for a spot of fishing.

Getting there

The delights of Normandy are a world away from the hassle of home. Brittany Ferries offers the widest choice of routes to Normandy with regular sailings from Poole to Cherbourg, or from Portsmouth to Caen and Cherbourg. In addition, the Portsmouth to St Malo service, although arriving in Brittany, will deliver you little more than half an hour’s drive away from Mont St Michel.

Sail by day or night by cruise ferry, or take the high-speed services and be whisked across in as little as 2¼ hours. Onboard you’ll enjoy award-winning service and superb facilities including shopping, bars, restaurants and a range of comfortable cabin options.
