Itxassou Festival

Traditional Basque festival.

The village of Itxassou nestled in the heart of the Basque Country, welcomes locals and visitors to its traditional celebrations. This is always a friendly occasion, a relaxed gathering between family and friends featuring plenty of entertainment. The program is composed of pre-party concerts held in front of the pediment, from Friday evening onwards.

Saturday will see a march to the top of Mondarrain, organised by the Izad'Itsasu association and a flea market. Then, in the late afternoon in accordance with Basque country tradition, the keys of the town are tossed in the air before the Town Hall, a gesture granting the freedom of the town to visitors.

The next day a bertsu bazkari (concert and lunch) will be held at midday at the Salle Sanok, before the ball dance begins in the village centre. Monday will be devoted to the festival in the Laxia neighbourhood, Tuesday to the pelota game and Wednesday to the church neighbourhood, before the closing ball in the evening.
