Mont St Michel history & specification

In June 2001 Brittany Ferries placed an order with the Van der Giessen shipyard, Holland for a of a new super ferry. The vessel was designed to replace the mv Duc de Normandie and would run alongside the mv Normandie on the Portsmouth to Caen route.  Her keel was laid on the 7th June 2001, and she was launched on 16th March 2002. Final delivery to Brittany Ferries was on 11th December 2002, with her maiden voyage from Caen to Portsmouth taking place on 20th December 2002, departing Caen at 1615.

mv Mont St Michel owes her name to the well known landmark "Le Mont St. Michel." This extremely popular tourist destination is the home of an ancient abbey situated on a piece of land jutting out from the Normandy coast.

The ship offers passengers a host of facilities including spacious cabins, a choice of restaurants, bars, cinemas, disco club, unique outdoor viewing gallery and video gaming area designed specifically for teenagers.

Carrying up to 2,200 passengers and with over two kilometres of vehicle space she has enough room for over 800 cars. The ship also features a range of state-of-the-art navigation and safety management systems making it not only one of the most comfortable channel cruise ferries afloat, but also one of the best equipped.
