History & specification of Normandie

Following the success of the Bretagne, in 1991 Brittany Ferries commissioned a new super ferry for use the route between Portsmouth and Caen, with a view to significantly increase capacity. The 5th October 1991 saw the launch of Normandie, and following outfitting, her final delivery to Brittany Ferries took place on 5th May 1992. She entered service

Named after the French region of the same name, it is decorated in traditional Norman style and colours with an equestrian theme throughout, demonstrating the importance of the horse in Normandy.

Normandie features first-rate on-board facilities, including excellent dining, shopping and live entertainment and relaxing public spaces. The stunning exterior design of Normandie means that she still looks amongst the most modern in the fleet.

She remains loyal to her route, varying little throughout the year from the Portsmouth - Caen run although she has been used on numerous commemorative sailings including the 60th anniversary of the D-Day landings.
