Our choice of six courses in the Loire Valley includes the renowned Les Bordes.
Set in the heart of an ancient forest, Les Bordes was built in 1984 on a money-no-object basis. In fact it is one of only two courses (Ryder Cup venue Valderama is the other) to enjoy the very highest rating in the prestigious Peugeot European Golf Guide. Like the golf, the dining here is also 5 star, but without the airs and graces that many people find so off-putting.
Quite apart from the superb golfing experiences that our courses offer, they also make a wonderful base from which to explore the fabulously beautiful countryside of the Loire Valley, often referred to as ‘The Garden of France’. The mighty Loire River (France’s longest) and the plethora of sumptuous châteaux lining its banks provide visitors with a wealth of sightseeing opportunities. The largest of these châteaux can be found at Chambord – a Renaissance masterpiece with 440 rooms and said to have originally been designed by Leonardo da Vinci.
The region also boasts fine cities such as Tours and Orléans, not to mention a wealth of charming little towns and villages. Local markets cover a wide range of products and themes, and a visit can result in anything from capturing a wonderful antique bargain to discovering a new and delicious local delicacy. And if you enjoy fine wine, most of the vineyards hereabouts offer free tours and tastings, not to mention the opportunity to purchase vintages at well below normal prices. Chinon, Vouvray and Sancerre are possibly the best known of the local produce.
