Course and hotel information featured in these golf breaks

FGN002 Golf Club de l'Amiraute Golf Club de l'Amirauté

Golf Club de l'Amirauté

Ref: FGN002

Built on a former stud farm and designed by Bill Baker, the superb course at l'Amirauté is a unique marshland course with long water hazards, wide fairways and large greens. It gives the impression of playing golf in Florida, and from the back tees this can be a real challenge. If you are struggling with the golf you can try to spot the 31 contemporary sculptures found on the course, or have a spot of lunch in the modern clubhouse, which serves excellent food, and is in a superb location with views out towards Deauville.

Our opinion: A great course, normally very quiet. Favourite Hole: 3rd.

FGN005 Golf de Deauville St Gatien Golf de Deauville St Gatien

Golf de Deauville St Gatien

Ref: FGN005

Between picturesque Honfleur and elegant Deauville is Golf de Deauville St Gatien. This 27 hole parkland course is surrounded by forests with superb, open views of the Seine estuary. Half the course is in the valley, while the last nine holes are on beautifully landscaped higher ground. The magnificent timber framed clubhouse is a former 18th century cider brewery and offers a warm welcome to all visitors.

Our opinion: Definitely worth a visit. Favourite Hole: 8th.

FGN013 Golf Barriere de St Julien Golf Barrière de St Julien

Golf Barrière de St Julien

Ref: FGN013

Close to Pont l'Evêque, in the heart of the Pays d'Auge is Golf Barrière de St Julien. This traditional style course, with a sprinkling of water hazards, winds through lush Normandy pastures  A very open course in superb settings in one of France's most beautiful regions. Ponds and lakes make for good water hazards and well-placed bunkers are there to catch the wayward. The 9 hole is a good test for beginners and mid-handicappers, whilst the 18 hole will suit players of all levels. Following your round you can relax in the well-appointed clubhouse. Free trolley hire when playing this course.

Our opinion: A 'must play' when in Normandy. Favourite Hole: 17th.

FGN001 Golf Barriere de Deauville Golf Barrière de Deauville

Golf Barrière de Deauville

Ref: FGN001

The original 18 hole course was built by Tom Simpson in 1929 and in the 60s Henry Cotton designed a further 9 holes. The 27 holes of Golf Barrière run through through extremely well maintained woodland on the edge of Deauville. There are magnificent views across both the town and sea, and although not long, the numerous dog-legs and tight fairways demand accuracy from the tee.

Our opinion: A 'must play' but often busy at weekends with members from Paris. Favourite Hole: 17th.

FGN011 Golf du Vaudreuil Golf du Vaudreuil

Golf du Vaudreuil

Ref: FGN011

Conveniently located between Evreux and Paris, Golf du Vaudreuil is a flat, mature course. Designed by Hawtree, the fairways wind through magnificently preserved parkland planted with a variety of trees where accuracy off the tee is essential. Try not to be distracted by the fabulous houses that line the course! The clubhouse is one of the very best in France, a former thatched barn that offers comfortable furnishings and a well-appointed restaurant.

Our opinion: Outstanding course in outstanding surroundings. Favourite Hole: 9th.

FGN003 Golf Club du Champ de Bataille Golf Club du Champ de Bataille

Golf Club du Champ de Bataille

Ref: FGN003

This course has one of the most visually stunning golf holes you're ever likely to see, the 17th, a short but fiendishly tight par three across a valley simply brimming with 100 year old rhododendrons. You could almost be at Augusta, although this wonderful championship standard course, Golf Club de Champ de Bataille, is amongst the most beautiful in France and has also been compared with Wentworth and Woburn. In the grounds of a magnificent Louis XIV château, Champ de Bataille, the holes meander through valleys and skirt lakes, all whilst bordering ancient trees and flowering bushes.

Our opinion: A 'must play' when in Normandy. Favourite Hole: 17th.

FGI005 Golf National Albatros Golf National Albatros

Golf National Albatros

Ref: FGI005

Ranked amongst Europe's top courses, Albatros has hosted the French Open on all but two occasions since 1991 (when Argentine Eduardo Romero became the inaugural winner here) and will host the 2018 Ryder Cup. This means we mere mortals have five years left to try out this wonderful course before the likes of McIlroy, Fowler and co take centre stage. So, what can we expect? Huge greens for starters (be warned, they're super slick in the sun), well guarded by plentiful water and sand traps. It's a challenging course, but with a variety of tee placements to make it manageable for the average player. It's the ideal place to play if you're looking to get a first hand flavour of the future of one of golf's greatest events.

Our opinion: A must play before 2018 when you can sit back and reminisce. Favourite Hole: 18th.

FGN016 Le Golf Parc Robert Hersant was Parc de Nantilly Le Golf Parc Robert Hersant

Le Golf Parc Robert Hersant

Ref: FGN016

Previously named Golf Parc de Nantilly, this is a beautiful course 20 minutes from Evreux and is an absolute must when you visit Normandy. Boasting a great clubhouse and maintained to the highest standard, the course has an American feel to it with plenty of water hazards which include several island greens. It is also surrounded by many rare species of trees which, when in colour, look fantastic. Buggy with GPS and use of the driving range is included in the price. No trolley or club hire.

Our opinion: Unbelievably fantastic. A must play! Favourite Hole: 12th.

Hotel le Cheval Blanc

Hotel le Cheval Blanc, Honfleur***

Ref: HF2447

Honfleur is one of those places where once you have been, you just have to return. Its inner harbour, surrounded by tall, narrow houses, is the place to sit in a café or restaurant, drinking in the view that has inspired so many artists. With inspiring views in mind, this warm and welcoming hotel enjoys one of the best positions in town and has a beautiful outlook over the quaint fishing port. Unfortunately there is no restaurant but you have a huge choice within easy walking distance.

Sea view supplement on request.

Hotel le Pré St Germain

Hotel le Pré St Germain, Louviers***

Ref: HF2408

Quaint Louviers is midway between Rouen and Evreux and is crisscrossed by branches of the river Eure. Easily explored on foot this charming town has museums, historic buildings and an ancient gothic cathedral plus some wonderfully restored half timbered buildings and a Saturday farmers' market. The charming Pré St Germain is in an old walled orchard with lovely peaceful grounds to walk around and a pleasant summer terrace where you can sit and relax. The gastronomic restaurant is of high repute locally for both its lighter snack menu, and the gourmet choice, which includes fine regional specialities.

Hotel Golf Parc Robert Hersant

Hotel Golf Parc Robert Hersant, La Chaussée d'Ivry***

Ref: HF2784

This charming hotel and its annexes (previously named Gingko Hotel) are on the edge of Le Golf Parc and offer well-equipped, modern bedrooms. From here it's a pleasant walk (500m) to the friendly clubhouse where you can enjoy excellent cuisine in the restaurant, relax in the lounge and bar, or sit out on the terrace and watch play on the 2nd hole. A great place to stay, right beside this fantastic course in lovely Norman countryside and within easy reach of Paris and Monet's garden at Giverny for those wanting a change of scene.

Restaurant closed Xmas & New Year.
