Golf breaks around South West France

South West France Map of golf course and hotel locations

If you fancy heading further south there are some wonderful golfing challenges. Pick of the bunch, and one of Europe's best, is Seignosse - closely followed by Makila; both are near the Spanish border. Further north the forest course at Lacanau is a delight as are the 36 holes at Golf du Médoc. Nearer to Poitiers, Haut Poitou and Manoir du Beauvoir are both high quality tracks.

There are many more courses to choose from and we'd be delighted to tailor-make a break for you and your group. There's easy motorway access south of Nantes or you might want to cruise overnight to northern Spain and drive across the border into France.

FGP004 Golf du Manoir de Beauvoir Golf du Manoir de Beauvoir

Golf du Manoir de Beauvoir

Ref: FGP004
Just 9k east of Poitiers at Mignaloux, this pretty course is set on flat ground with an abundance of pine trees in the surrounds of the Manoir de Beauvoir hotel. Whilst playing you will encounter plenty of water hazards which come into play on 8 holes but the course is suitable for all abilities and is a really pleasant walk.

Our opinion: An excellent course - try and play! Favourite Hole: 3rd.

FGP002 Golf du Domaine des Forges Domaine de Forges

Domaine de Forges

Ref: FGP002

Fairways are generally large, but the rough can be punishing. The course is split into three 9 hole courses, with varying degrees of difficulty, which makes it suitable for players of all abilities. The blue course is quite flat so is ideal for high handicaps, the white course has several water hazards and is ideal for mid to low handicaps, and the red course, with its undulating fairways, is a good challenge for low handicaps. The friendly clubhouse has a welcoming atmosphere and offers tennis courts as an alternative to golf.

FGA005 Golf Blue Green Seignosse Golf Blue Green Seignosse

Golf Blue Green Seignosse

Ref: FGA005

One of the great courses in Europe, and quoted as one of the top 100 in the world, the undulating fairways of Seignosse wind through a huge valley of some 70 hectares, bordered by pines and natural water hazards, and other ravines. This course will test the most skilled players with even the lowest handicappers finding it a real challenge. Designed by Robert Von Hagge in 1991, it features water hazards with railway sleepers - very much his trademark.

Our opinion: One of the best you'll ever play. Favourite Hole: 11th.

FGA003 Golf de Moliets Golf de Moliets

Golf de Moliets

The Moliets golf course is ranked one of the top 10 in France, and one of the top 25 in Europe. This unique seaside course with wide fairways is set within delightful surroundings of century old pine forests bordering the Atlantic Ocean. The 27 holes may be a challenge for some golfers but still accessible to all levels of players.

Our opinion: Great variety, must play if in the area. Favourite Hole: 15th.

Biarritz le Phare Biarritz le Phare

Biarritz le Phare

Situated between the Pyrenees and the sea, Biarritz le Phare offers fantastic year round playing conditions. Designed and built in 1888 the 18 hole course is one of the longest-established courses in France. Play through the avenues of pines and enjoy stunning views over the town, a wonderful day of golf.

Our opinion: Private members course, immaculate condition and presentation. Favourite Hole: 4th.

Chateau de Vigiers Chateau de Vigiers

Chateau de Vigiers

This stunning course is situated in the heart of the Périgord amidst unique surroundings and lovely countryside. The three loops of nine holes carve through plum orchards and oaks, lakes and vineyards. The course is generally immaculately maintained and great for both beginner and experienced golfers alike.

Our opinion: Top quality venue worth playing. Favourite Hole: 18th.

FGA008 Golf de Lacanau Golf de Lacanau

Golf de Lacanau

Ref: FGA008

In the heart of a pine forest between a lake and the Atlantic just a couple of kilometres away, this course, designed by John Harris in 1980, is built on sand. The site allowed the architect to use natural surroundings carving the course out of dunes and pine forest and many people think they are playing the famous courses of Hardelot. All year round play is achieved on this excellent course.

Our opinion: Combine this with Golf du Médoc and you'll have a fantastic time. Favourite Hole: 10th.

Manoir de Beauvoir, Poitiers - Mignaloux

There is plenty to see and do in the area - the historic city of Poitiers (9k) is a short drive and a visit to Futuroscope, a futuristic theme park revolving around the world of cinema and the moving image - one of the top 15 in the world - is well worthwhile.
