Bars & Restaurants in Cherbourg, Normandy

LA REGENCE
Heliophot
In Cherbourg centre opposite the harbour, this hotel is an ideal stopover for those wishing to discover the Cotentin region. Warm colours and wood-panelled interiors give the place an old-fashioned feel without appearing cold - this hotel is a cocoon within the city.
Agnés and Gilles Lechevallier, the owners, attempt to blend old-fashioned good manners with modern hotel business, and their warm welcome is an added bonus.
The hotel restaurant is a gastronomical landmark, with quality seafood and some excellent French cuisine.

LE QUAI DES MERS
Located in what was once the Trans-Atlantic Passenger Terminal, the restaurant is housed in a marquee which, with its passenger liner-style wooden decking, teak furniture and arm-chairs, gives a certain friendliness and intimacy. The cuisine is classic, mostly based on fish, including a justly famous fish sauerkraut or a home-made paella.
The view out to sea and over the nearby harbour entrance, coupled with the majestic proportions of the listed terminal building, is further enhanced at night by dramatic lighting. It would be easy to imagine yourself a passenger aboard one of the great trans-Atlantic liners, but this is a voyage of discovery to explore new tastes instead.
