Bars & restaurants in Brittany

CREPERIE TY A DREUZ
The crêperie occupies one of the island's old stone houses, with something a little odd about it. Ty a dreuz in Breton means "leaning house", and the house does indeed bear a resemblance to the Leaning Tower of Pisa as the result of harmless subsidence.
In the finest tradition of Breton crêperies, the restaurant offers an impressive array of galettes and crêpes. The speciality of Ty a Dreuz is the Ouessantine, filled with smoked sausage and potato and only to be found here on the island. The nearby harbour and coastal walks all around the restaurant are ideal for a reinvigorating walk after your meal.

RESTAURANT PATRICK JEFFROY
This 1930s building on the Carantec peninsula and its panoramic sea views is both a visual and a gourmet delight. The best that land and sea has to offer is as refreshing to the spirit as the bracing sea air. Local ingredients and inventiveness are the two key assets put to very good use by chef Patrick Jeffroy. Pressé d'araignée à la concassée de blé tiède (pressed spider crab with warm crushed wheat), Saint-Jacques aux épices douces (mildly-spiced scallops) make a delightful surprise, and the view is never less than entrancing.

L AUBERGE DU PECHEUR
Close to the jetty and in the heart of the village, the inn basks in a pleasing rustic atmosphere created by its wooden furniture and big tables, exposed beams and red-tiled floors.
In the kitchen, the chef prepares the freshest of the day's catch from the Ile de Groix and Port Trudy: the oysters, lobsters and other crustaceans are fresh beyond compare.
Alongside the inn, a pub-style bar offers a choice of around a hundred different whiskies.

LE TARA INN
The Tara Inn is a real Irish pub with a real Irishman for an inn-keeper, which no doubt explains the contagious good humour that reigns over the place. Everyone mingles here; the beer is excellent and pub food is available as you scan the drinks list.
All sorts of special events are held at the Inn: concerts of Celtic music or Gipsy swing, Breton dancing lessons, etc. The Tara Inn is a lively spot.

LE TOUR DU MONDE
Everyone, from children to sailors by way of grandmothers dropping in for their afternoon tea, is to be found at some time or another in this establishment, the only one in the whole of Brest to offer a view of the sea and the marina. The menu offers a choice of four variations on moules-frites (mussels with French fries) - marinières, in a cream sauce, with chilli pepper and curried – while the bar works like a pub, with drinks at the bar or at the large oak tables seating up to 10 around the huge fireplace!

CAFE LE MICHELET
Every Saturday morning is oyster time, when oysters are served at just 20 centimes a piece, with bread and butter! No need to add, perhaps, that the atmosphere is particularly friendly and lively!
The bar specialises in wine by the glass, red or white, served on the boat-shaped terrace (open in summer, closed and heated in winter). The ideal place for a lunchtime snack in the middle of a day's shopping in the town centre.

CHEZ ROLLAIS
Here is a bar where it's easy to spend a whole evening, from aperitif via a convincing wine list to the evening concert held once a month, accompanied by savoury snacks of bread, sausage and rillettes.
The style is pleasantly old-fashioned Paris bistro, bench-seats and all. Themed discussion and poetry evenings are regular events.

PUB O KENNY
The Guinness here is served in a typically Irish pub setting, with wood panelling and some slightly unusual decorations: a multitude of small wooden boxes and small suitcases.

LE BISTRO DE LA TOUR
The Bistro de la Tour features two dining-rooms, each with its own distinct atmosphere. The ground floor bistro serves lunch and dinner in a wine-cellar setting. The large first-floor dining-room, on the other hand, features a permanent exhibition of paintings by Breton artists of the school of Pont Aven.
The food is a harmonious blend of fish and seafood with local produce, accompanied by a wine from our list of 850 references; the wine waiter will happily recommend the ideal wine to complement each dish.

CREPERIE LA SORCIERE
In an old fisherman's cottage in Arzon, near Port Navalo, La Crêperie la Sorcière is a chance to rediscover the true quality of this Breton speciality that is too often let down by poor imitations. Despite the dozens of witch figurines decorating the restaurant, black magic plays no part in what goes on in the kitchen, only a deep-rooted tradition of delicious, authentic crêpes and galettes.
Try the Irlandaise with smoked salmon, the Bigoudenne with andouille sausage and apple or the Périgourdine with smoked duck breast for a true taste of Brittany.
