LE CABARET ELECTRIC
Within the Forum du Volcan, the national theatre of Le Havre affectionately known as the "yogurt pot", the recently-opened Cabaret Electric is a smaller, more intimate theatre whose programme concentrates primarily on new musical talent. Over forty concerts a year are staged in this unusual venue, which provides support to artistes throughout their work. Leading groups are often to be found here, polishing up their next show or preparing an album in the course of a creative residency. In short, just the place for those with an interest in discovering new talent.

LE GOO BAR
Grossard - viaFrance
The Goo Bar is a sure-fire hit for an evening out in Nantes. The striking decor is industrial in inspiration: a motley collection of reclaimed objects (including a four metre-high beer pump!) makes the place unique.
The music is highly eclectic; from jazz to reggae or electro in the blink of an eye. The Goo Bar also has an impressive list of wines from all over the world, including a few very agreeable surprises.

LE COMIX
In the heart of the Quartier Saint-Martin, the liveliest quarter in Brest where all the students gather, the Comix is a theme bar named in honour of all those American comic-book superheroes and, of course, a famously indomitable Gaulish village holding out against the Roman invader. This welcoming bar doesn't serve magic potions, but it does offer a hundred or more comic-books for patrons to read, and a really friendly atmosphere at aperitif time.
So down with the Romans and their characterless bars, and off to the Comix!

Grossard - viaFrance
Never tasted a Bombay Breizh? Head for the Bateau Ivre to try this delicious cocktail, made from gin, raspberry liqueur and lime. This is a friendly place where everyone talks to everyone else and people hop tables as the conversation ebbs and flows.
The decoration has been completely revamped for a neo-Baroque look in shades of red, with moulded frames and fuchsia slates. Another room is decorated in warm shades of beige for a more rococo style, but feels just as welcoming.
Exhibitions are staged every two weeks, with a contemporary focus and the same emphasis on sharing reactions and ideas.

LA GERBE DE BLE
This former posting-house in Laval has been a hotel and restaurant ever since the late 18th century. The decoration, on the other hand, is contemporary, featuring modern furniture against a background in shades of ripe wheat. The menu features traditional dishes from land and sea, like scallops or foie gras with pommé (apple butter), typical of the region. Inspired, inventive cuisine that can be enjoyed with your eyes closed, so fresh are the aromas distilled from the fresh ingredients hand-picked from the market by chef Eric Jouanen himself.

SYMPATIC BAR
Grossard - viaFrance
Spend an evening with friends here, and you won't regret it! If only for the amazing "Chien Fou" cocktail (strawberry cordial, vodka, Tabasco) served in a shot glass, or the famous "Verre Vert" (green glass) consisting of Get 27, vodka and Perrier). The beer list is impressive, too, and the English pub atmosphere makes for a relaxing evening.
The music tends towards rock'n'roll, and lots of regulars enjoy a game of table football or two. An upstairs room is available for functions and concerts.

Tea lovers need not feel neglected, however, since the shop also offers around a hundred varieties of loose tea, teas in muslin bags and a number of highly original and subtly flavoured teas: "poet's mix" is a blend of cinnamon, vanilla, caramel and apple, "cherub's blend" mixes sweet and bitter with hazelnut chocolate spiked with blood orange and additional notes of lemon and almond.

AUX AMIS DE LA BD
Less than ten years ago, there was not one single shop dealing in comic books in the whole town of Vannes. In May 1999, fans finally found what they were looking for in this bookshop which has grown over time. To step inside is to step into the comic-book world, with books attached to the ceiling and illustrations all over the walls.
The recently-opened bar means it is now possible to sip a coffee while you read, and benefit from personalised advice from a bookshop that features up to 15,000 titles – an absolute gold-mine. Get-togethers and games evenings are a regular feature.

RESTAURANT LA COTE
On the edge of Carnac, near the Kermario megalithic alignments, La Côte is a restaurant with only one ambition: to bring "new flavours" to local produce and seafood. In a typically local setting, with exposed beams, fireplaces and bare stone, the atmosphere is a perfect blend of warmth and refinement.
On the menu, pavé de turbot meunière, crêpes Suzette with preserved orange or croustille de coulommiers en pâte (Coulommiers cheese in flaky pastry) are a constant evocation of the combination of classicism and originality displayed by chef Pierre Michaud and his wife Laetitia.

Once you climb the nine steps leading up to this building dating from 1737, you'll find yourself in one of Rennes' cosiest bars. Every attention has been paid to the decoration for a slightly Latino setting, with Louis XVI armchairs and exposed beams against deep red walls.

There is a special themed evening every month, with a different theme every time, but the prevailing musical style is electro.

LE FLESSELLES
Grossard - viaFrance
For over twenty years, Le Flesselles has been one of those addresses passed on by word of mouth in Nantes. On the ground floor, enjoy light meals or a drink in a 50s setting.
On the first floor, the colourful Tiki Bar skips a decade to the 60s.
You might just happen on a surprise concert at aperitif time, or maybe a DJ set or, on the first Saturday of each month, on a café-philosophie session. Whatever's going on, Le Flesselles is a lively spot, well worth a detour.

L ARTIMON
The food is original and sophisticated, based on fresh ingredients, and the menu changes every five weeks: another good reason to keep coming back! The atmosphere is friendly and the restaurant makes a laudable effort to ensure value for money, its aim being to build up a loyal body of regular customers in search of quality. Quality that is expressed to its full in the scallops or the veal sweetbreads.

ATELIER DE LA GIROUETTERIE
Welcome to the world of the weather-vane! From the most classical to the most original, here is where you will find weather-vanes of every kind, made to measure, made to order, to your own design or from a photograph – nothing is impossible in this workshop. Weather-vanes have existed since the Middle Ages, not only to show which way the wind is blowing but also to indicate the trade of the householder: a rearing horse signified a wayside inn, an ox marked the house of a farmer, a mill that of a miller.
Group visits to the workshop can be arranged (visit lasts 45 minutes). Present-day models are divided into a number of themes: local and regional, sport, cars, the sea, music, or even scenes from everyday life.

ATELIER DE MADAME COCAR
Madame Cocar's workshop provides an in-depth introduction to the techniques of traditional stained glass and the asymmetric creative work required to produce the required thick glass using traditional craftsman's methods. For 25 years the work of production has been carried on in this studio, with the utmost respect for the material and how it will blend into the environment for which it is destined.
The stained glass produced in this workshop graces buildings both public and private along the Breton coast. Other smaller pieces, known as "cabinet stained glass", are on display in the exhibition gallery outside the studio.

LE FRENCH CAFE
The bar is a reconstruction of a typical town square in Provence with an added flavour of the flea-market: items in the "junk-shop" section are actually for sale (old clocks, mirrors, chandeliers, juke-boxes, etc.), while clients at the bar take shelter under the branches of a tree whose branches disappear into the ceiling.
Try a "Vallée d'Auge" cocktail (calvados, praline and fresh cream) in the lounge area with its teak furniture, sofas, benches and pouffes, set off by mosaic tables and a real, old-time zinc bar counter.

O DONNELL S
Right in the centre of Caen, on the Bassin Saint-Pierre where much of Caen's night-life centres, O'Donnells pub is a little piece of Ireland transplanted to Normandy. There is a wide choice of beers and other refreshing beverages on offer in this authentic, friendly bar when the temperature starts to rise.
Televised football and rugby matches, Friday night concerts and themed evenings are all good excuses for partying the way they do back in Dublin.

LE CAFE BOUILLU
The wine bar serves a choice of grands crus and prides itself on a highly eclectic wine list (up to 2,000 € (???)!), not to mention a cocktail bar that can rustle up even the cocktails you couldn't find on their list! The style is designer, achieving the Art Deco feel of a 1930s Paris café, with Moroccan wax-finish walls and a marble bar with lighting in tones of red, brown and gold. The welcome is friendly and sincere, and a vast music collection serves up lounge, jazz and electro sounds.

LE CHALUT
This restaurant, in the heart of Saint-Malo city, is intimately tied to the city's cultural event calendar and thus schedules themes evenings to coincide with the city's cultural events and festivals. With a maritime theme colouring the interior, this restaurant is specialised in quality seafood: most of its produce comes from nearby fishing businesses in the Côtes-d'Armor and throughout the Channel.
So when you order the wild sea bass with Camus artichoke, or the scallop with spider-crab, you can expect a fresh, tasty and undoubtedly Breton meal.

LE BIDULE
Right in the historic town centre of Rouen, Le Bidule is one of a kind. The splendid vaulted cellar offers two distinct areas: one contains the dance-floor while the other, calmer and more intimate, offers an opportunity to relax quietly over a cocktail or a flaming shot.
The decoration is vaguely oriental with Moroccan lamps and upholstered arm-chairs. An exotic atmosphere in which to enjoy the house music that keeps the Bidule rocking until late into the night.

CAFE LE MICHELET
Every Saturday morning is oyster time, when oysters are served at just 20 centimes a piece, with bread and butter! No need to add, perhaps, that the atmosphere is particularly friendly and lively!
The bar specialises in wine by the glass, red or white, served on the boat-shaped terrace (open in summer, closed and heated in winter). The ideal place for a lunchtime snack in the middle of a day's shopping in the town centre.

CHEZ ROLLAIS
Here is a bar where it's easy to spend a whole evening, from aperitif via a convincing wine list to the evening concert held once a month, accompanied by savoury snacks of bread, sausage and rillettes.
The style is pleasantly old-fashioned Paris bistro, bench-seats and all. Themed discussion and poetry evenings are regular events.

PUB O KENNY
The Guinness here is served in a typically Irish pub setting, with wood panelling and some slightly unusual decorations: a multitude of small wooden boxes and small suitcases.
Irish music sessions every Wednesday, Irish influence other evenings, mixed with other genres such as rock and sometimes Celtic.

LE BISTRO DE LA TOUR
The Bistro de la Tour features two dining-rooms, each with its own distinct atmosphere. The ground floor bistro serves lunch and dinner in a wine-cellar setting. The large first-floor dining-room, on the other hand, features a permanent exhibition of paintings by Breton artists of the school of Pont Aven.
The food is a harmonious blend of fish and seafood with local produce, accompanied by a wine from our list of 850 references; the wine waiter will happily recommend the ideal wine to complement each dish.
