Description of Hotel Continental, Pau
This is an excellent location in the centre of the historic city of Pau, with its sweeping views of the Pyrénées. It is in a fine old building with period furniture, spacious, well equipped bedrooms, free Wi-Fi and a restaurant offering 'creative cuisine'. Pau has an interesting history - it was the capital of the Kings of Navarre, and it was discovered by the British in the 19thC when the rich took their holidays here, introducing polo, croquet, rugby and fox hunting to the region, and opening the first golf course in France in 1860.

The hotel is inside a pedestrian area and access is via a bus lane and a crossroads with 4 no entry signs in all directions. Help was needed from the parking attendent while holding up the bus traffic. Mr & Mrs Gillett, September 2012
