Well furnished semi-detached cottage beside very friendly owner's home, in quiet setting 1.5k from village. Not for children under 14 yrs (bedrm layout). Well equipped, long & fairly narrow fitted kitchen (w/machine, d/washer, m/wave, f/freezer) with breakfast bar/stools & exposed beams. Spacious lounge/dining room (flat screen tv - some English channels, dvd, video, hi-fi) with exposed beams & French windows to terrace. Sgle bedrm (en suite shower/wc). Steep, narrow open tread stairs from kitchen to 1st floor mezzanine (sitting area with French tv & video) leading to lovely attic bedrm with 5ft dble bed, armchairs, French tv, exposed beams, velux windows & step down to en suite corner bath/shower/wc. Duvets. Towel hire 10 euros per set. Electric heating (included). Gravel courtyard with shrubs, flowers, garden furniture & bbq. No smoking indoors. Utility charge: included. Private Pool: 6.5m x 3.5m and 1.2m to 1.5m deep surrounded by high walls & tall lockable gates. Kidney shaped, with steps, lighting, sun terrace & loungers, covered terrace, solar heated shower. Open late April to late October.

The nearby town of St Astier (4k) has a Thursday market & the city of Périgueux is only 20k away with its lovely old town, cathedral, shops & restaurants.

After perhaps 25 yrs of staying in gites in France this is quite disctinct; it's not a property for holiday let, and it's not someone's holiday home; it is Hilary's home, and therefore very SPECIAL! And that extends to the space outside, especially the courtyard with the pool & the shelter wich is so good for early evening drinks. Not surprisingly we have only wanted to go out on one day to the Abbey at Echourgnac & the convent church at Aubeterre. Sally & John, August/September 2012

Such a lovely comfortable gite especially nice as the weather was rather inclement. However we got to use the pool on 2 days. The 'Roque de Gageac' followed by the 'Jardins de Marqueyssac' was a good trip with fantastic views over the Dordogne river; also the 'Jardins de l'Imaginaire' in Terrasson worth a visit.
