Description of Hotel du Lac, Combourg
Home of the great French writer Châteaubriand, the delightful medieval town of Combourg is a pleasant spot within easy reach of St Malo. Its ancient streets are a wonderful blend of architectural styles with half timbered houses intermingling with elegant granite built dwellings, and the impossibly romantic château, which is now a museum dedicated to the author, overlooks the tranquil waters of the lake below. This charming hotel and its annexe are next door to a lively bar in the shadow of the castle, and has friendly, welcoming staff, free Wi-Fi and pleasant comfortable rooms. Good local cuisine cooked by your host is served in its 3 dining rooms, two of which overlook the lake.

A comfortable hotel in a lovely spot. Our room overlooked the lake, a charming view. ~Restaurant meals were excellent & worthy of the Logis de France "trois cocottes". The small town of Combourg offered many other eating alternatives; we can particularly recommend the Cour du Temple creperie. A pleasant base to explore Bretagne. The Bartons, September 2012
