Description of Golf Club des Ormes, Dol de Bretagne

A championship golf course set in a 370 acre estate surrounding a 16th century château and including a family friendly resort with campsite, hotel, log cabins and even tree houses (look out for them as you play a round). The clubhouse, originally a farm building, retains the original beams and fireplace, but if the sun's out you simply must drink and dine alfresco, and maybe even take a dip in the outdoor pool to cool off. The course is not that long, but quite tight, and the greens are just a joy. The holes around the imposing château are the highlight, particularly the 10th, where you must first thread your ball through an avenue of apple trees and then over a lake guarding the green. This is an ideal course for a family or group of friends looking to combine golf with relaxation and sightseeing, as fairytale Mont St Michel is nearby, so too the castle at Combourg, while Dol de Bretagne is great for pottering round the market or simply shooting the breeze in the pavement cafes. Free trolley hire when playing this course.

Our opinion: A wonderful complex which has a hotel, superb facilities and a great course. Favourite Hole: 10th.
