Description of Hotel Malherbe, Caen
Caen, the capital and largest city of the Basse Normande, was rebuilt after being virtually destroyed in 1944 and is now a mostly modern city that hasnevertheless managed to keep its old world charm. It has lots to offer including 2 abbeys, 8 splendid old churches, tree-lined river walks, markets and wide streets lined with stylish shops and good restaurants. The Hotel Malberbe, which used to be called the Holiday Inn, has a friendly atmosphere and is beside the wide open space of the racecourse - a surprising 'prairie' right in the city centre, where trotting races take place. Comfortable modern bedrooms and a pleasant bar/brasserie in an ideal location make this a perfect choice for a break. Garage parking (limited) approx. 1 euro/hr.

Excellent hotel, opposite the racecourse. A few minutes walk to Caen city centre and a little longer the railway/bus station. Plenty of choice for breakfast. Restaurant menu not paticularly extensive, better value elsewhere. Would stay in the Hotel Malherbe again. Mr & Mrs Shelton, April 2013
