Description of Accommodation

Simply furnished cottage adjoining barn & owners in quiet hamlet close to the picturesque old town of Jonzac. Many original features, beams, stone, tiles. Entrance through rustic kitchen (3 steps down) with d/washer, m/wave & w/machine. Lounge/diner. Open tread stairs to 1st flr with shower room, wc & 2 bedrms - dble & tple (large sgle bed & bunks - low beams). Duvets. Linen provided free July-Aug and 7 euros per bed other months. Metal cot, high chair. Tv (request from owner). Electric heating. Large garden (lovely views of fields - sunflowers, cereals, vines) with lawn, furniture, 2 loungers, bbq, table tennis. Utility charge: metered. The Pool: 7m x 3.5m and 1.5m deep, heated, with safety cover. Occasionally shared with owners. Open end Apr to Oct.

Jonzac overlooks the river Seugne & has a twice-weekly market as well as a good choice of shops, restaurants & an exciting aquapark (indoor & outdoor).

The BBQ out on the back patio is nice on hot evenings and the stars are beautiful on a clear night. Highlights: La Rochelle, great aquarium, good food in harbour and night time entertainers. Bordeaux, beautiful city, good shopping. Jarnac, canoe hire for 2 hours for a scenic trip on the river. Royan, nice beaches in this area. We wanted a rest so tried to stay local but can recommend Talmont sur Gironde, Pôle Natur de Vitzeray and Royan zoo. The pool was a welcome sight when we returned from a trip and was very used. Marie-Christine and Michaela are lovely hosts (as well as various other family members) and all made us feel very welcome. We enjoyed the pool and ping pong table and spent as much time outside as possible, staying up late at night to watch the sky and shooting stars. The gite is great, well equipped & a great pool. The location exceptional, our hosts really friendly with lovely touches of fruit & veg! All around are the vines of Bertrand family - a visit to the house is a must. Otherwise, found Jonzac a lovely place to walk around. Will do it again! A day spent at Angoulême was great but arrive in the morning for the daily market, the produce is wonderful, parking is easy under the market & reasonably priced.
