Customer Reviews
A great first holiday in the Vendée! Sun was out nearly all week but on the occasional wet day we managed to make it enjoyable anyway! We spent a lot of our time along the coast and on the many beaches including Les Sables d'Olonne & Noirmoutier (good for renting bikes and crossing the sea at low tide). Corniche Vendéenne near St Hilaire is a rocky beach with many rock pools. We also enjoyed the pedalos at Apremont and the 'Vélorail' in Commequiers (booking a place is recommended). There is a nice restaurant 'Le Carabi' in La Mothe Achard, Mme Michon recommended it and offered to book us a table which was essential! We had a wonderful time! The Harbach, August 2010
Yet again a wonderful family holiday in an exquisite village! We enjoyed a meal out with M et Mme Michon together with Françoise (a neighbour). Our daughter and grandson enjoyed daily bike rides in the surrounding lanes and the local bakery is still very good. We hope to visit again next year. Brenda, Peter, Sharon & Ben Hepburn, August 2010
This is an ideal base from which to explore the Vendée and its beautiful beaches. We particularly like the 'Plage de Normandelière' which we found most easily reached. With a 5 & 7 yr old we also enjoyed the château at Avrille and the gardens at Coëx (nice stained glass opposite). Locals are friendly and helpful and the bakery is great. Hope you have as pleasant a stay as we have. The Walbank & Oliver family, July/August 2010
Very enjoyable week spent in the Vendée and the sun has shone every day so we spent lots of time on the various beaches. Our girls (4 & 9) enjoyed the seawater swimming pool between Brétignolles sur Mer and Brem sur Mer and l'Ile de Noirmoutier has good beaches. Thursday 'Autrefois Challans' festival in July and August is definitely worth a visit. We have all enjoyed this well equipped gite and the girls especially liked the games room - and thank you for the cider! Suzanne, Paul, Sarah & Erin Cullen, July 2010
Our first visit to this part of Vendée, and we like it very much. Highlight of the holiday was the Cinéscénie at Puy du Fou and the Parc itself was impressive. We managed the Passage du Gois at Noirmoutier and the Jardins des Olfacties at Coëx is worth a visit. Super U at La Mothe is pretty good for price and variety, and local baker is excellent. We will certainly return to the Vendée, as there is so much more we want to see including a visit to the Marais Poitevin and exploring Les Sables d'Olonne. Steve & Lyn, June 2010
We are a family of six and this is our fifth time in the Vendée; we really enjoyed this holiday and the house worked very well for us. The weather was a bit mixed but we found plenty to do on the cloudier days. We would recommend the Château des Aventuriers at Avrille which was perfect for our children ranging from 3 to 10 (there is a treasure hunt which is excellent and takes a couple of hours). The aquarium at La Rochelle is excellent but a bit far. Parc des Dunes at Brem sur Mer is fun for the children. We hope to return again next year; the house is excellently located and well equipped. The Stanfords, May/June 2010
We have enjoyed our visit to this area of France and particularly liked Talmont St Hilaire and St Gilles Croix de Vie. If the Reserve Naturelle Michel Brosselin at St Denis du Payré is on your list it only opens on selected days. The house is very well equipped and comfortable and it was very nice to be able to leave the car in the garage. Would recommend to anyone looking to holiday in this region! The Bloxomes, May 2010
