Description of Accommodation

Ruiloba is a quiet village just inland from the fine beaches on the Cantabrian coast - there's an excellent one at Comillas (3k), an attractive town and seaside resort with lots of nice restaurants and café-bars. A couple of summer festivals take place in Ruiloba, famous for traditional dancing. 12k from here is pretty medieval Santillana del Mar - a must for any visitor to this area - and it's also an easy drive to Potes for a day in the stunning mountain scenery of the Picos de Europa (60k).

The landscaped El Helguero site has 240 pitches and 16 chalets in 15 acres of wooded grounds with open green areas and is popular with young people at weekends in summer. Facilities include a small shop/supermarket, an outdoor pool, children's pool, electronic games area and organised activities for children. A range of outdoor sports (hiking, mountain biking, fishing, parachuting, windsurfing and canoeing) is available in the local area and Sunday excursions are organised on site.

Max: 3/5 - Compact wooden chalets have kitchenette (2-ring hob & microwave - no oven) in dining area which leads out onto a terrace with patio furniture. Triple (single + bunk beds) and double bedrooms. Shower/wc. Portable heaters on request. Limited storage space. Bbqs permitted but not provided.

SPORTS - Hiking, riding, mountain biking, parachuting & watersports including windsurfing & canoeing, all nearby.

FOR CHILDREN - Activities (pottery, painting, games etc) subject to demand and not on Saturdays. Playground & electronic games area.

OTHER ACTIVITIES - Organised Sunday excursions (Soplao caves, bicycle rides, etc).

FACILITIES - Table tennis. Wi-Fi (charge payable).

SWIMMING - Unheated outdoor pool (10m x 20m & 1.5m-3m deep) and children's circular paddling pool (20cm deep), both open Easter-end Sept.
