Description of Hotel Del Oso, Potes - Cosgaya

Popular with both British and Spanish visitors, and well known for its restaurant, this super little country hotel comes highly recommended. Family run, it sits in picturesque surroundings alongside the mountain road leading to the busy market town of Potes and the Fuente Dé cable car which takes you up to the top of the Picos de Europa for fantastic views and great walks. Friendly staff (plus 2 even friendlier dogs!) will welcome you and after an energetic walk or a day's sightseeing, a game of tennis or a dip in the pool and a drink on the terrace is the perfect way to relax. Comfortable rooms have a mountain or river view and the excellent restaurant, which has a good reputation for delicious local cuisine, is well patronised by people who come from far and wide to dine there. In the heart of the Picos de Europa, Cosgaya is a pretty little community amongst fantastic scenery and a great place for enjoying the great outdoors. Potes, the local capital, is a short drive and straddles the river Deva. It's a popular centre for organised outdoor pursuits including white water rafting, climbing, canoeing, horse riding and 4x4 jeep trips into the mountains and has a lovely old quarter full of traditional houses, numerous tempting restaurants and souvenir shops plus a weekly Monday market. In mid September it also hosts an annual music festival in the town square when hundreds of people come from miles around to enjoy and take part in the celebrations.

This is a great hotel in a magical setting, with stunning mountain views. Plus the added benefit of a great staff team. Excellent food, a decent Wine list. Add the new swimming pool, plus the location, and comfortable rooms - what more could you want.

An excellent family run independent hotel. A warm welcome and excellent dinner and breakfast. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Very clean and should be at least a 4 star rated hotel.

I have been going to this Hotel for years, started thirty years ago and it has got better as the years go by. Good choice of food and wine, service excellent, many places to sit and relax both inside and out, log fire when cold. Now have a heated swimming pool and tennis court. Peacefull, next to a river and large car parking. In all a good place to go to relax.

Hotel del Oso: as you arrive good parking, you are helped with your luggage after check in, the welcome is warm and genuine. Accommodation; rooms were clean as were the bathrooms, warm and inviting, places to sit and relax and the large lounge on ground floor with large log fire when required was a joy. Also a bar which served snacks is great. Service cannot be faulted.
