Cruising in Aquitaine - Map and Places to Visit along the Way

Suggested Routes

Your cruise will start and finish in Buzet offering a choice of waterways. For one week cruises you can head south along the rivers Garonne and Baïse as far as Valence. Or you can cruise via Agen and Moissac to Montech, or even east via Agen, Clairac and Villeneuve to Penne d’Agenais. For two week cruises, head for Montech, and then as far as Valence.

Places to visit along the way:

Agen

On the river Garonne, is famous for its prunes and plums - you can even find chocolate-filled prunes to take home as souvenirs! The town also has an old quarter, a fine canal bridge, a beautiful museum of art & archaeological finds, a market and a huge choice of restaurants.

Vianne

Vianne is a former bastide village with much of its fortified walls still intact. Nowadays ceramics and artistic glassware is produced here - the shops have some lovely displays and it's sometimes possible to visit a workshop.

Nérac

Nérac has an impressive château and royal gardens - this small town holds a Buzet wine festival on the first weekend in August.

Condom

Condom has a magnificent cathedral, some lovely old streets and a museum of Armagnac. There's also a market if you're here on a Wednesday.

Moissac

Moissac is a must for anyone with an interest in art or history. Its 7thC abbey cloisters have intricately carved marble pillars and the building is listed as a World Heritage site. There's also a fruit market each Saturday & Sunday morning selling the plentiful local produce and you'll find a choice of restaurants in the town.

Villeneuve sur Lot

Villeneuve sur Lot will appeal to rugby fans - there are no fewer than 3 stadiums dedicated to the sport. There's a good range of restaurants and shops in the town and a number of markets take place including one on Friday evenings selling local produce. You can also hire a canoe or kayak here.
