Anjou has great appeal with its mild climate, green countryside and picturesque manor houses and châteaux.

The clear water of the river Mayenne takes you through some glorious countryside in the département of the same name.

The other main river, the Sarthe, is peaceful, flowing through a pretty valley with meadows, woods and riverside villages - there are also relatively few locks on this stretch of water so it's ideal for novices.
