Parc du cháteau des Ravalet

East of Cherbourg-Octeville the castle of Ravalet was built 1550. In the XIXe century, the family de Tocqueville bought the site and modified the park, creating two water mirrors and a round greenhouse (restored in 2000). In 1935 the city of Cherbourg took over. The park was enriched with new plants with mainy tree-ferns. Both mansion and greenhouse are listed.

FREE Entry. Open all year: 8 am-7.30 pm from June to August, 8 am-7 pm in April/May/September, 8.15 am-6 pm in February, 8.30 am-5.30 pm in January, 8 am- 6 pm in March/October, 8 am-5.30 pm in November, 8.30 am-5 pm in December. Walk at leisure or guided tour in July, August.

Parc et Jardin du château de Miromesnil

A splendid beech plantation shelters the 17th century château where Guy de Maupassant was born. The park, dominated by a 200-year old cedar, contains a fine example of a traditional floral kitchen garden.

Entrance Fees

  • 4 € children aged 10 to 17.
  • Free under 9.

Open from April 1st to November 1st every day from 2 pm to 6 pm (guided tour). By appointment for groups from 9 am to noon and 2 pm to 6 pm.
