The European Health Insurance Card (EHIC)

The European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) provides UK and Irish resident reimbursement of a proportion of certain medical costs incurred in another EU country. Private treatment is not generally covered and state-provided treatment may not cover everything that you would expect to receive free of charge from the NHS. The EHIC is valid in all European Community countries plus Iceland, Liechtenstein, Switzerland and Norway.

It is strongly recommended that you obtain one of these cards before you travel as many insurance companies insist on this being used before a claim is made on your personal travel insurance. A higher level of medical cover is included in the personal insurance offered by Brittany Ferries.
