On the edge of heathland, a few miles outside Rochefort is the Château de Talhouët, an intimate country hotel with a few bedrooms - more like a splendid private house whose attentive hosts choose not to have an official star rating. Built in the 16th/17thC it offers modern comfort in a historic setting without losing any of its atmosphere. Rochefort is considered to be one of the prettiest towns of inland Brittany, and is seriously bedecked with flowers - in window boxes, ornamental wells and horse troughs. 4 course dinner included.
