South of Auray and just above the mouth of the Gulf of Morbihan lies Locmariaquer, a pretty fishing village and summer resort which, like Carnac, is well known for its enormous prehistoric standing stones. There are also excellent walks, boat trips around the Gulf and lovely beaches close by. Les Trois Fontaines is a stylishly modern hotel just as you drive into the village and the owner is both friendly and welcoming. You can relax with a drink in either of the pleasant guest lounges or pretty garden before strolling to the village for dinner.
