Close to Santander, this splendid Parador is in the centre of this picture postcard village near to, but not by, the sea despite its name. Beautifully restored, with arches, columns and balconies galore, the bright, welcoming rooms are elegantly furnished in traditional style with hand-forged metal lamps and chandeliers, and reproductions of the nearby cave paintings at Altamira. There is a delightful garden, and local game and seafood feature on the menu. Garage parking approx. 10 euros/night.
