One of the latest additions to the Paradores chain, this former 19thC royal palace is within easy reach of Santander, just south of Laredo. It has both an indoor and outdoor pool and the magnificent gardens which include a tennis court and a wonderful variety of trees, some over a hundred years old, have been designated a World Heritage site. The main building has been extended to accommodate most of the bedrooms whilst the café-bar and restaurant, which specialises in local cuisine including a traditional sailor's dish of tuna, salmon and lobster, is housed in the original part. Garage parking approx. 10 euros/night.
