Bréville (2k) has various amenities including a bakery, post office, café & restaurant & the village is known for its artists and craftsmen working with wood. In the last 2 weeks of August a 'festival of wood' takes place, with wood turning competitions, exhibitions and sales of local produce. Cognac is only 12k away with its river port, good shopping and guided tours around the famous brandy houses. Also worth a visit is the city of Saintes (29k) where there is a Roman amphitheatre and boat trips on the river Charente.
