On the placid waters of the Arcachon Basin, Arès is 45k from the great wine city of Bordeaux, yet is a different world. Pine and oak trees edge the water, where swans, ducks and egrets potter about between the freshwater lagoons and streams that flow into the bay. For dramatic Atlantic rollers take the 7k road across the dunes to the ocean beach at Le Grand Crohot.

Built in a style reminiscent of a simple fishing village, these 132 attractive maisonettes blend perfectly with the local landscape, dotted amongst trees and lagoons, with cycle paths all around and direct access to the beach. There is a large outdoor pool (15m x 16m & 1.8m deep), a paddling pool and an indoor heated pool (12m x 5m) and gym. Tv hire 40 euros per week. Breakfast available for 10 euros per person.
