St Gilles Croix de Vie is a charming seaside town, bustling in summer, with a harbour (boat trips), markets, good bars & restaurants and several lovely sandy beaches. It is one of many resorts along this coastline including larger Les Sables d'Olonne (23k) to the south with its popular zoo & lively night time entertainment. Or St Jean de Monts (27k) to the north with its cool pine forests, children's beach clubs and a long seafront promenade perfect for summer evening strolls.

Beside a magnificent 18-hole golf course, the Domaine des Fontenelles is an attractive complex with a cluster of 80 detached villas, an elegant main building with 84 apartments, a restaurant and bar and another area with 120 maisonettes. 3 tennis courts (8 euros per hour) and large heated outdoor pool & paddling pool (1 June to 30 Sept). In July & August there's 20% discount off green fees and also a free children's club (4-12 yrs) 2 half days a week. Breakfast 9 euros per person.
