The beaches of Aquitaine have been a British holiday destination for many years, both for the newer resorts and old established favourites. Biarritz, for example, is easily reached from Moliets, after a drive through the cool, shady pine woods of the Landes. A day trip into Spain is another option - perhaps one way speedily by autoroute, and the other via one of the mountain passes in the Pyrenees.

On the 'Silver Coast' of south west France, this village of 430 apartments and 162 houses is set amongst scented pines, 2k by footpath from one of Aquitaine's incredibly long sandy beaches. SPORTS - 5 tennis courts on site, 10 euros per hour. Table tennis. Windsurfing, surfing, canoeing, body board and lessons at Moliets Plage. Golf 300m (discount available on green fees) - lessons available. Sailing 7k.

FOR CHILDREN - Playground, small farm. FREE children's activities; 3 to 5yrs (all year), 6 to 12yrs and 13 to 18yrs (high season). There is also an infant club 3 to 35mths that is not free of charge. All clubs are closed on Saturday, are subject to availability and must be requested at time of booking.

OTHER ACTIVITIES - Archery (500m), circus school, keep fit, pool exercises. Ball games, indoor games. White water rafting expeditions organised. Riding 2k.

FACILITIES - Horse drawn carriage rides and mountain bike hire on site.

SWIMMING - 7 pools including one heated (14m x 14m) & 3 children's pools.
