In the heart of the Picos de Europa the lively market town of Potes is the local capital of the lovely Lièbana valley and is a popular centre for organised outdoor pursuits including horse riding, canoeing, climbing, 4x4 jeep hire and white water rafting. It also has a lovely old quarter and a wonderful Monday market where you will find local hand-made crafts and regional specialities on sale.

In a beautiful setting with views of the striking Picos mountains, Camping La Isla is beside the road to Fuente Dé, just outside of Potes, in an area that is ideal for walkers. It is only a small site with 110 pitches and just 14 chalets which are surrounded by a variety of fruit and ornamental trees, and the river Deva runs all along one side where you can fish for trout in season (permit required). There is an outdoor pool and a small shop for basic provisions; a bar that serves snacks and has a shaded terrace that overlooks the water plus a children's play area and electronic games to amuse youngsters and adults alike.

Max: 3/5 - At one end of the site these compact wooden chalets have kitchenette (2 ring hob only) in dining area with tv which leads out onto a terrace with patio furniture. Triple (single + bunk beds) and double bedrooms. Shower/wc. Portable heater. Limited storage space.

SPORTS - Fishing nearby. Tennis, canoeing and horse riding at Potes.

FOR CHILDREN - Playground, electronic games.

OTHER ACTIVITIES - Walking nearby.

SWIMMING - Unheated outdoor pool -10m x 5m and 0.5-1.5m deep, open May-Oct.
