Got a few hours to spare?

If you have a few hours to spare before your sailing, then why not check out some of the great attractions in Cherbourg?

Cité de la Mer

Walk: 25 mins (2km)

Drive: 6 mins (2.3km)

Head under the sea (without getting your feet wet) at Cherbourg's Cite de la Mer! Housed inside the strikingly Art Deco former Transatlantic Liner Terminal, from where tens of thousands crossed to the Americas aboard the great ocean liners of the 20th century, this huge family attraction is one not to miss.

There's a host of stunning aquariums including the deepest tank in Europe, a gallery of remarkable underwater machines with even deep-sea submersibles on show and a fantastic exhibition devoted to what life was like aboard the Titanic, which departed from Cherbourg before its fateful journey.

And that's not to mention the submarine that's parked out back! Step into La Redoubtable, the largest submarine open to the public in the world!

Cité de la Mer

Château des Ravalet

Walk: 52 mins (4km)

Drive: 11 mins (5.6km)

Not far our from the centre of Cherbourg lies this elegant Renaissance-era chateau. The house itself has a fascinating history thanks to the intriguing lives of some of its former owners.

But if it's peace and quiet you're after, then a walk in the gardens is just the ticket. Take a turn through the pretty pathways and find your own little slice of heaven in these 30 acres of attractive gardens,

Château des Ravalet

Musée de la Libération

Walk: 58 mins (4km)

Drive: 9 mins (3.1km)

Set high on a hill in the historic Fort du Roule, this museum tells the story of Cherbourg's occupation by the Germans during WW2 and its liberation by the Allied troops on 25 June 1944.

Discover what life was like to live in Cherbourg during that difficult time as well as about the soldiers that fought here with a variety of exhibits and archive footage from the liberation.

There's also fantastic views from the fort all across the city.
