Stretching for several kilometres to the north of the city, the Grande Plage is a popular sandy beach by the old walled town of Intra-Muros. The beach is spiked with tree trunks to form natural water breakers so that it is a calm area that is safe for all the family.

You'll find much to do around the beach as the whole area is lined with great hotels, bars and restaurants so you can spend the whole day exploring!

If you want to explore the history of St Malo without all the walking, take the Vagabond, a small train that travels through the streets of Intra-Muros on a 30 minute tour.

The city's impressive medieval castle, the Château de St Malo, was once owned by the Dukes of Brittany. Today, it houses the town museum in its great keep.

This small sandy beach is sheltered by the magnificent ramparts of St Malo, and at low tide you can walk from here to the Fort National. Supervised by a lifeguard, the beach is great for swimming and family fun.
