Founded in the 12thC, this Benedictine abbey enjoyed great prosperity until the 16thC when it fell into decline. Since 1956 many of the private monastic buildings, which include the chapter house (a jewel of Norman Gothic art) and agricultural buildings have been carefully restored to show the life of a medieval monk. Various exhibitions & events are held here during the season.
