Landmarks and Historic Buildings

Built as a military fortress rather than a palatial home, this 13th century castle is an intimidating and austere sight when arriving in Angers. Home of the Dukes of Anjou, this massive fortress has seventeen towers and a outer wall nearly 10 feet thick that hides the wonderful sculptured gardens within. It also exhibits one of the world's longest and oldest tapestries, the Apocalypse Tapestry, which stretches 100 metres and depicts the story of the Apocalypse from the Book of Revelation.
