The magnificent bay of La Concha gives San Sebastián its beautiful, sheltered sandy beaches and is also home to the city's own island, the Isla Santa Clara. Boat trips go out to the island every half an hour in summer, or, at just 700m from La Concha beach, why not swim out like the locals do? Once there, you'll have a fantastic view of the city. Take a stroll and visit the lighthouse, enjoy a drink at the bar, or perhaps take a picnic and go for a walk around the island to try to spot the indigenous species of lizard, the podarcis hispanicus sebastiani. At low tide the island has its owns beach and some have managed to walk across to the island in the low tides of the autumn.
