Right on the huge sandy Sword beach of D-Day fame and a half hour walk
from the terminal, the Riva Bella has a terrace and lounge with huge
picture windows facing the sea. In the restaurant - also with lovely sea
views - the chef offers traditional dishes or a separate healthy eating
menu for those counting the calories! Adjoining the hotel is a
thalassotherapycentre offering a range of treatments (extra charge), an
indoor pool with aquatonic maze, jets, currents and bubbling water, a
sauna, Turkish bath and fitness room (free use for hotel guests). As
many people are aware, Ouistreham is convenient for an overnight stop
either on arrival or before leaving France by ferry but there is so much
more to this little resort than the port. Liberated by British troops
during the Battle of Normandy it's a great place to stay when visiting the
Landing Beaches and numerous D-Day memorials. Or, if you don't want
to take the car or stray far from where you are staying, the village
itself has lots to offer - 2 D-Day museums, one of which is within a
bunker and tells the story of the liberation, a superb sandy beach
where in summer you can try your hand at various watersports, fishing,
land yachting or kitesurfing, or if you prefer something a little less
energetic why not visit the casino. As well as all this, the city of Caen
is an easy drive or bus ride and is great for shopping and Bayeux, famous
for the tapestry, is certainly worth visiting too.
