Hotel d'Europe, Morlaix
Hotel d'Europe, MorlaixHotel d'Europe, Morlaix

Brimming with art and history, this sheltered yacht haven and old Breton port is dominated by a huge 19th century viaduct which separates the historic quarter from the port and was built from local pink granite for trains to travel between Rennes and Brest. The narrow, picturesque cobbled streets and steep alleys are lined with chic boutiques and craft stalls, enticing restaurants, cafes and crêperies and beautiful old half timbered houses which include the Maison de Pondalez (hanging house) and the Duchesse Anne house, both fine examples of 16th century architecture that you can visit for a small charge. Morlaix bustles all year round with festivals, maritime events and street artists in the summer, and the many things to see and do include visits to the tobacco factory, the Château du Taureau, the museum and the popular Saturday market and the museum. Well located close to the viaduct, in the centre of town, the Europe is a great traditional hotel that dates back hundreds of years. Homely and full of character, it has lots of dark wood and an impressive central staircase with lovely carvings leading up to contemporary, individually furnished bedrooms (lift up to 3rd floor only) with comfortable beds & a shower as opposed to a bath. A good continental buffet is available each morning in the breakfast room and there is direct access to the restaurant next door. Free public parking 500m.
