FERRY & HOTEL
Le Clos de Vallombreuse, Douarnenez
France > Brittany > DOUARNENEZ
Close to the town centre and with stunning views overlooking the bay, this charming country mansion hotel with its lovely garden and pool is well placed for exploring the wild coastline and the bustling city of Quimper. The traditional accommodation is simple but comfortable, and in summer you can dine on the terrace when the weather allows. Guests also have use of a small spa area with sauna, jacuzzi and steam room after which you can relax in the lovely garden or use the pool (May-Sept). Douarnenez is an attractive town where the bustling quaysides are lined with lively cafes and restaurants and narrow streets are filled with craft shops and pretty fishermen's cottages. There are also no less than 4 harbours. In the 19th centuryDouarnenez was one of the region's major sardine centres and although the fishing industry may have declined since then, the interactive Port Musée is a fascinating museum of everything to do with boats, the sea and fishing and is keeping many of the old maritime skills alive. You can explore the older part of town using the marked route Chemin de la Sardine or take a boat trip around the harbour and see it from a different perspective. To the east you can walk to the pretty village of Plomarch, a favourite of artists and walkers, or to the west there is a coastal path from the pleasure port that stretches to the headland and the Sables Blancs beach. At low tide you can also join a guided tour and walk across the bay to the Isle of Tristan, home to an attractive mix of botanical gardens, woodlands and pretty parks.
Restaurant closed last 2 weeks of Nov & Sun/Mon (Oct-May).
