FERRY & HOTEL
Hotel Mercure Roscoff Bord de Mer, Roscoff
France > Brittany > ROSCOFF
Roscoff, Brittany Ferries' home port, is a pretty fishing village and popular resort close to the dramatic coast and unspoilt countryside of Finistère and nothing like the usual cross Channel ferryport. With long term connections with Scotland, it is the home of the famous French onion sellers who cycled around Britain with strings of pink Roscoff onions tied to their bicycles. There are delightful art galleries and gift shops to discover, crêperies - a savoury or sweet crêpe (pancake) is lovely washed down with the local cider - and pretty good Breton restaurants too or why not treat yourself and relax with some thalassotherapy (seawater spa treatments). And don't miss a trip by boat across the harbour to the pretty Ile de Batz where the only cars allowed belong to the locals and most people travel by bicycle. As well as lovely beaches it has gorgeous gardens and a lighthouse, plus you can walk the coastal footpath or follow cycling trails through attractive countryside. Well located in the village square, opposite the church and sea and 2k from the ferry terminal, the Mercure has recently opened after a refurbishment programme. Its interior is chic and stylish with cosy bedrooms each with complimentary tea and coffee making facilities, and there are sea views from the breakfast room and lounge where you can watch the fishing and pleasure boats pass by at high tide. There is also a fitness room. Hotel parking (limited) 9-15€/nt or free public parking (400m).
